The Carolina Cinema is a unique 15-screen theater showing mainstream features, independent films & features and foreign cinema.
This theater is unique in that it is the only theater in WNC that offers movies of every genre from mainstream blockbusters to artistic independent films. The two genres are rarely seen in the same theater. But this theater is unique in just about every way possible.
As soon as you walk into The Carolina lobby you know you're not in Kansas anymore. Above the lobby, in defiance of gravity, floating islands slabs of concrete invite one to simply let go of gravity and float off to another galaxy. The walls are embedded with sculptures of metal and glass while, out of the concrete lobby floor, alien trees fashioned from twisted metal seem to spread their tendril-like branches in search of light from a distant sun.
The Carolina spared no expense in renovating the old Regal Hollywood movie house. All 14 theater rooms have been completely revamped with luxuriously large and comfortable "kick back" seats and 2 of the theater rooms have been transformed into "living room" spaces with sofas, lounge chairs and love seats. The Snack Bar in the lobby offers all the favorite movie food as well as a selection of 12 local beers, all on tap and an excellent sections of eco-friendly wines. (The wines, distributed by Trinity, are all made from sustainable vineyards and for every bottle sold, a tree is planted in Brazil.)
But the best part, and most unique, is above the Snack in the new Full bar upstaris. There is a 15th screen in the bar area that is currently playing first run movies at no cost to those who are having drinks or food in the bar. There will soon be a special menu available with an emphasis on "locally grown" cuisine.
